AHA's Mission: Lifeline® STEMI and ACC Working Together

ACC Accreditation Services and the American Heart Association have a shared vision of improved consistency in the treatment of patients with a ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). Together the organizations launched the Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation program. This alliance changes the way STEMI patients are reperfused by breaking down the silos that exist between care providers. This is accomplished by bringing together physicians, nurses, emergency medical service providers, and hospital teams to refine and eliminate barriers that prevent the best clinical outcomes.

AHA Mission:Lifeline

Two Great Organizations, One Goal: Improving Quality of Life

There are two types of Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation. These accreditations are provided through a partnership between the American Heart Association and ACC Accreditation Services. Hospital teams that commit to earning Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation are supported by tools, resources and access to program representatives who can answer questions along the way.

Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Heart Attack Referring Center Accreditation

This accreditation identifies hospitals that meet standards for promptly diagnosing heart attacks, providing initial care, stabilizing patients and transporting them to a Heart Attack Receiving Center.

Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation

To earn this accreditation, hospitals must meet standards for prompt, appropriate heart attack treatment, including lifesaving procedures such as percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) on a 24/7 basis. Mission: Lifeline® STEMI is an American Heart Association program that assists communities nationwide in streamlining their systems of care to help heart attack patients go from the first 911 call to in-hospital treatment faster.

ACC's Chest Pain Center Accreditation Helps Your Facility Meet The Goals Of AHA's Mission: Lifeline® STEMI

Becoming an accredited Chest Pain Center will ensure that facilities continue to improve many of the clinical processes identified by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) under their Value-based Purchasing program. Combining Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation with Chest Pain Center Accreditation further assists in improving patient outcomes and satisfaction by providing a comprehensive approach to treating all patients with acute coronary syndromes, including those at risk for its development. ACC and AHA mutually agree that providing cardiac accreditation programs is in the best interest of patients, meets the needs of the healthcare community, and helps to significantly reduce cardiac-related disability and deaths.

Applying for Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation

By participation in the AHA's GWTG-Coronary Artery Disease® (CAD) for Mission: Lifeline® STEMI, the next logical step is to apply for accreditation and receive designation as either a STEMI (Heart Attack) Receiving Center or STEMI (Heart Attack) Referring Center and be recognized by the State Department of Health, EMS, and your community. This can be done in one of three ways:

  • Add on to your ACC Chest Pain Center Accreditation
  • Consecutive Applications for ACC Chest Pain Center and Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Accreditation
  • Mission: Lifeline® STEMI Standalone Accreditation
